IB chief gets one more year extension

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension of in-service senior IPS officer Tapan Kumar Deka as Director, Intelligence Bureau for one year beyond June 30, 2024 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The appointment was in relaxation of provisions of FR 56 (d) and Rule 16 (1A) of All India Services (Death cum Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958, according to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and Establishment Officer Deepti Umashankar.

Deka is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre of the 1988. In 2021, he was empanelled as Director General of Police (DGP) level. His tenure as the Director, IB commenced from July 1 as the tenure of his predecessor Arvind Kumar ended on June 30, 2022.

Deka is also called as the super spy of Bharat, with commendable expertise in handling super sensitive cases, including terror related cases
