Smart bikes all set to aid metro travel
There will be around 500 bike stations along the Metro corridor.
Hyderabad: Smart bikes have been stationed at metro stations to provide last mile connectivity to commuters and though they are ready for use, they are awaiting the green signal from Minister of Industries K.T. Rama Rao.
For almost a month, metro rail officials have been giving a variety of reasons for the delay in launching the bikes: waiting for the number of joy rides to reduce, the crowd to stabilise, all the other cycle stations to be set up, or some app issues.
A member of the Hyderabad Bicycling Club, which has partnered with Hyderabad Metro Rail for last mile connectivity, said, “We are waiting for the confirmation of appointment from Minister K.T. Rama Rao for inaugural of the smart bikes.
Tentatively we are looking at January 6 and latest by January10. Till then we are doing dry runs of our software launch since it is a big project in itself.”
There will be around 500 bike stations along the Metro corridor. Commuters can rent the cycles from the stand using a dedicated app, or their Metro cards, to get to their destinations.
