Anantapur: Drinking water and street light services have been hit in many parts of the region since Monday in view of the indefinite strike by municipal workers. The sanitation services were already hit in all areas due to an abrupt stop to the daily collections.

Drinking water supply was hit in several areas after municipal workers stopped attending to their duties. Similarly, streetlights were not switched off in interior parts of the urban areas since Sunday.

Huge dumps of garbage, disposed of by homes, have piled up at several places, emitting stench.

“We have no other option. We kept the garbage in the house for the past 9 days but no garbage vehicle was coming to collect the waste,” said Pushpa, a home-maker from the Housing Board colony.

The indefinite strike by municipal workers left many main roads of Anantapur into garbage waste dumps. In addition, the Srirami Reddy Drinking Water staff announced a strike demanding that their long- pending issues be solved.

The drinking water project has been meeting the needs of Anantapur and Satya Sai districts including Kalyanadurg, Madakasira and Hindupur municipalities.
