Kerala Law Academy admits faults

Thiruvananthapuram: The press release Kerala Law Academy law college issued on Tuesday announcing the steps to end the student agitation has virtually admitted to all the charges the students organisations had leveled against it. It listed a nine-points redress  mechanism for rectifying the major complaints against the college. The remedial measures are: Lakshmi Nair has relinquished principal’s post and the charge has been handed over to the vice-principal Madhavan Potty.

She will not act as the faculty of the college for the next five years. Attendance report will be published every month. Internal assessment marks for each subject will be decided by the respective teachers. A grievance cell comprising three teachers will be formed after consulting the students to address the issues related to internal marks. A college council which will include two student representatives including one girl student nominated by the college union will be formed to handle general issues in the college.

No action will be taken against the students who took part in the agitation. Various academic activities including court work, chamber work and moot court will be resumed soon. A committee will be formed with a senior teacher as the chairman and the warden and an inmate as members to frame the rules and regulations of the hostel. The committee would have the powers to amend the rules of the hostel.
