Fearing layoff, techie ends life by suicide
HYDERABAD: The 31-year-old techie died by suicide in his elder brother’s flat, where he was staying, late on Thursday, Narsingi police said on Friday. The victim, Chandolu Vinod Kumar, 30, a native of Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, was afraid that he may be laid off, police said
Rajesh Kumar was working from home at Guntur and would come to the city once to attend the office at Madhapur. During those times, he would stay with his brother Chandolu Rajesh Kumar’s family in Puppalaguda.
Police said Vinod Kumar came to the city on March 26. During a conversation, he informed his brother that he might lose his job due to lay-offs in his company. Two days ago, he told his brother and sister-in-law that the job was hard, and they counselled Vinod Kumar.
Police said Rajesh Kumar and his family went out for some time and returned to find Vinod Kumar’s body. They took him to a doctor residing in the same building for CPR, but it was too late.
Rajesh Kumar said that Vinod was upset that he might lose his job and could have taken the extreme step due to that. On his complaint, Narsingi police registered a case and started an investigation.
Narsingi sub-inspector L. Samaram Reddy said Vinod Kumar had not left behind any suicide note. “But he had discussed a couple of times with his brother that he might lose his job,” the police official said.
