Brothers drown while bathing in Kochi river

The bodies were finally fished out two hours later.

Kochi: Two brothers drowned while taking bath at Ponothpuzha river near Udayamperoor on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Anantha Krishna, 14, and Atul Krishna, 11, children of KSEB employee Kusumraj and Jiji of Paramveli, Athu-laya Nagar, Kochupally East, Udayamperoor. According to cops, the incident happened at 3.30 pm when a group of boys went to Taikattukadavu jetty of Konothupuzha river. “The brothers went along with three friends to take bath. However, the elder boy drowned in the swirling waters. Their friends said the younger brother rushed to help him, but also drowned in the process,” police said.

There was no one around and the nearest house was located 100 metres away. The three friends rushed to the house and the household immediately alerted police and the fire force. The bodies were finally fished out two hours later. The autopsy would be conducted at the Tripunithura Taluk Hospital on Monday and handed over to the relatives. While Athul is a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Naval Base Ananthakrishnan is studying at KPM Poothotta school.
