Wayanad: The father of a young man from Anappara, near Ambalavayal in Wayanad, received a rare diktat from his Mahal committee on May 27. His son has  done serious damage to the religion by making fun of Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal on Facebook and hence the family would be ostracised.

The diktat also mentioned that the Mahal committee and religious leaders would not cooperate with important events like wedding and housewarming. The letter was addressed to K.M. Moideenkutty, father of Labeeb, a CPM follower regularly criticising other political parties on Facebook.

According to him, Mr Thangal is the state president of Indian Union Muslim League and not a spiritual head. “If other leaders like BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan and  Congress leaders can be criticised, why should Mr Thangal be above criticism?” he asks.

The Mahal committee’s letter saying that it would not participate in any of the family functions of Labeeb as he mocked Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal through his FB posts.

“If the religious committees prevent others from mingling with our family, there are other people, who are ready to support us. There are even groups among the Muslims if one faction issues a decree.” He got married to Muhsina on Sunday, and he says only 25 percent of the invited did not turn up because of the restriction.

He believes ostracising measures does not affect his family much since there were forward thinking people in the society. The Khidmathul Islam Sangam Juma Masjid committee that issued the order was not available for comment.
