Warangal: As the state government prepares to reorganise Warangal Urban and Warangal Rural districts to create Warangal and Hanamkonda districts, the people of the tri-cities—Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet—are unhappy with the decision.

The question being raised is on what basis is the reorganisation taking place? The citizens have criticised the state government for creating districts so that their legislators can reign unopposed in some areas.

In 2016, reorganisation of the district was welcomed for ease of governance. However, the people are questioning as to why now, a district is being modified on the basis of Assembly constituencies.

Youth for Warangal president Thota Pavan said, “We want the tri-cities together. Each of them has its own importance. While Kazipet has good connectivity, Hanamkonda has all the government offices and Warangal is a thriving business centre. However the land is being divided between legislators like feudatory kingdoms. There is no scientific reason for the formation of Hanamkonda district apart from selfish politics.” He further warned that another movement just like the statehood agitation would arise in Warangal if the TRS government tried to divide the city.

Meanwhile, Sudhakar Pullur, president of Forum for better Warangal suggested that the merger of both these districts under question is for the overall growth and development of the area taking into account the available human, natural, cultural, historical, educational and agricultural resources.

The citizens are unhappy with the process of reorganising the two districts that is being carried out now.

During the 2016 district reorganisation a public poll was conducted and suggestions by the people were received. This time all the public representatives from Warangal met at the residence of minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao in Hyderabad and passed a resolution to divide Warangal with Hanamkonda as the district headquarters.

Warangal East MLA N. Narender went on to say the same people who opposed Warangal and Hanamkonda in 2016 had now changed their view and want it reorganised.
