Gospel band Reformers' reunite to mark 40th anniversary
HYDERABAD: Popular contemporary Telugu Christian band ‘Reformers’, which was formed in 1983 and eventually broke away, came together for a concert in the city to mark 40 years of their formation.
The band was formed at the Andhra Christian Theological College (ACTC), Hyderabad, where nine members with a passion for music came together and extensively travelled through then Andhra Pradesh to perform.
However, over the course of years, they migrated to different countries and seldom performed. But, they made it a point to make it to Hyderabad, from Middle East countries, USA and Australia, among other countries, on Saturday to perform at the Sundarayya Vignana Kendram at Bagh Lingampally.
Anil Kiran, the lead singer, said: “Although we are in different parts of the world, we are always connected; music is one thing which is binding us together. We have many subscribers to our popular gospel numbers.”
Reginald Marthand, another band member, said, “Many memorable performances gained great popularity as our songs and music are our own compositions. An audio cassette titled ‘Rakshana Sunaadamulu’ went on to become a hit among the religious community members.”
Peter Paul, a band member who came from Australia, said, “The concert brings back the nostalgia. The audiences mostly are familiar with our tunes and numbers. They also joined in singing the songs.”
