HYDERABAD: Social welfare minister Koppula Eshwar on Friday appeared before the advocate commission appointed by the Telangana High Court, over charges of irregularities levied by his Congress opponent Adduluri Laxman following his narrow 441-vote victory at Dharmapuri in 2018.

Laxman had alleged that the irregularities had taken place in counting the votes and  authorities had manipulated  the results. Pointing to different announcements on voting by the poll officers and RTI information, Laxman had approached the High Court which appointed the advocate commission.

The commission asked Eshwar why he had waited for two years before filing a counter to the election petition. When the minister said that there is no illegalities in counting of the votes , Laxman’s counsel asked why the minister had not filed an interim application  requesting the court to not issue orders for recounting. He asked why Eshwar had approached the Supreme Court and asked it to dismiss the election petition against him.

The High Court separately held the election petition against Eshwar and adjourned it to July 3.
