Kerala students flock to B-Arch
Self-financing seats for architecture high in demand.
KOCHI: Even as majority of self-financing (SF) engineering colleges find it difficult to get students to fill their seats, most of the architecture self-financing colleges have been able to get students comfortably. Out of a total of 23 architecture colleges across the state, six colleges have been able to fill all their seats after the third and final allotment by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations.
The 23 colleges put together have 520 seats with 21 having 20 seats each while College of Architecture, Thiruvananthapuram, has 60 seats and KMEA College of Architecture, Aluva has 40 seats. College of Architecture, Thiruvananthapuram too has been able to fill all its seats. The others which could fill all their seats are Asian School of Architecture and Design Innovations, Vyttila (20 seats), Avani Institute of Design, Kozhikode (20), Devaki Amma's Guruvayurappan College of Architecture, Chelambra (20), IES College of Architecture, Chittilappilly (20) and Mariyan College of Architecture and Planning, Kazhakkoottam (20).
The two colleges that could fill the least number of seats are Talent Institute of Architecture, Edappal and Veda Vyasa College off Architecture, Ponnempadam, Malappuram (12 seats each out of a total of the 20 seats). Five colleges managed to fill up to 19 seats out of a total of 20 seats.
These are Alsalama Institute of Architecture, Perinthalmanna, Ernad Knowledge City College of Architecture, Cherukulam, Malappuram, Holy Crescent College of Architecture, Vazhakkulam, Nizar Rahim and Mark School of Architecture, Kollam and TKM School of Architecture, Ezhukone, Kollam. The total number of vacant seats in 17 colleges stands at 52. In the self-financing engineering college category, 85 out of the total 114 colleges had failed to fill 50 percent of their seats after the third and final allotment by the CEE the other day.
