KOZHIKODE: The Muslim Students Federation (MSF) elected its new state committee during its state conference in Kannur on Sunday and Misbah Keezhariyoor is the new president. The outgoing president T.P. Ashrafali maintained that he did not revise his membership and would like to step aside. However, he asserted that the Samastha Kerala Sunni Students Federation had been targeting him.

There were earlier reports that Mr Ashrafali could be given another term, but the Samastha was against it. They had written an open letter to IUML state secretary K.P.A. Majeed against his criticism of Sharia laws regarding the marriageable age. They were also irked when he stood by his earlier stance and sought immediate action from the IUML leaders against him.

Meanwhile, Mr Ashrafali said there was a persistent pressure of Samastha groups on the leaders to take action against him, but his acceptance as district panchayat member from Karuvarakundu division in Malappuram was proof that his stance was right. “The society is progressing, and so, the community too should accept the reality. There would not be anyone from the younger generation accepting their stance except the blind followers,” he said.
