Thomas Issac announces Rs 300 crore hydel project in Wayanad
The detailed project report will be prepared by the end of this year, he added.
KOZHIKODE: Finance Minister Dr T.M. Thomas Isaac on Sunday announced a Rs 300-crore hydel project connecting Kakkayam-Peruvannamuzhi and Banasura Sagar dam in Wayanad. He was talking to reporters here after visiting the Kakkayam tourist destinations with Mr Purushan Kadalundi MLA. The detailed project report will be prepared by the end of this year, he added.
The work on the project would begin by next year with the coordination of forest, irrigation and tourism departments and the electricity board. The facilities for the same will be arranged in coordination with the private sector. There are plans to include convention centres, ropeway, open zoo, water theme park, trekking, tunnel tourism, farm tourism, home stays and botanical garden.
The government aims at 100 per cent increase in the number of foreign tourists and 50 per cent in the number of domestic tourists, said the minister. Dr Isaac was presented with an award for best social worker instituted in the name of A.C. Shanmughadas at a function at KP Kesava Menon hall. Former union minister K.P. Unnikrishnan presented the award. Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran presided over the function.
