BENGALURU: The Dasara festivities in Mysuru city will be held in a grand manner this year, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, while keeping an eye on the expenditure without incurring unnecessary spending for the 10-day event. Mysuru is the hometown of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
However, the executive committee for the Dasara festivities will work out the cost factor to hold the festivities and after it the state government will take a decision on the amount that needs to be spent on Mysore Dasara, said the Chief Minister and stated that the Dasara festivities will be inaugurated atop Chamundi Hill in Mysuru on October 15 between 10:15 am-10.30 am.
The Chief Minister said that the high-level meeting has given powers to him to choose who should inaugurate the Dasara festivities and a decision will be taken after discussions.
Siddaramaiah held a high-level meeting in Bengaluru on the conduct of Dasara festivities and told mediapersons that the attention would be given to draw more tourists to the event and stated that it will have attractions such as cultural programmes, yuva dasara, farmers’ dasara and illumination of city.
“The illumination of Mysuru city during the Dasara festivities will be grand and also cover more areas than those done earlier,” said the Chief Minister and stated that “priority will be accorded to artistes from the states while artistes from neighbouring states will not be ignored to perform at the event.”
Siddaramaiah said illumination of Mysuru city and exhibition will start on the inaugural day of the event and said a Committee headed by Mysuru district incharge minister H.C. Mahadevappa would ensure that the commercial stalls, government department stalls and others get functioning on the same day.
He expected that the women visitors to Mysore Dasara would increase this year since the state government launched ‘Shakti’ scheme which will allow women to travel free from any part of the state and assured to ply more buses during the Dasara festival.
He said he would hold talks with Union Minister for Defence Rajnath Singh for granting an air show during Mysore Dasara and recalled that when Nirmala Sitaramana was the Defence Minister, the event had an air show which was a major attraction.
