HYDERABAD: Representatives from several colonies surrounding Safilguda, who have been facing difficulties ever since the South Central Railway closed the Safilguda railway gate, met to discuss solutions which included the possibility of constructing a new road underbridge (RuB)  near the Balaramnagar-Sitaramnagar railway track.

The SCR closed the gate in 2021 citing safety concerns, affecting the commute of residents from several colonies between the gate and Ramakrishnapuram basti, including Balramnagar, Sitaramnagar, Devinagar, West Sri Krishnanagar, Adarshanagar, LB Nagar, Sainiknagar, New Vidyanagar. Already affected by the gate closure, thousands of families believe their woes will worsen if the handover process for a newly constructed apartment complex in Anand Bagh comes to an end.

They said that they have to travel close to 3 km more to get to the Ambedkar statue and Uttamnagar RuB road, which also is narrower and more dangerous than the existing road.

Other suggestions discussed included constructing other railway rainwater drains in the middle of Sitaramnagar for better ease and flow of traffic.

Meanwhile, several others said that railway safety is paramount people can use the existing four-lane underpass nearby. Another said observed that the closing of the gate eliminated traffic jams, the need for traffic personnel and RuB at the gate.
