Nizamabad: Celebrations erupted in north Telangana districts, especially in Nizamabad parliamentary constituency, soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a National Turmeric Board for Telangana on Sunday. This marks the realisation of a three-decade-old dream.

Lok Sabha member Dharmapuri Arvind fulfilled his election promise of facilitating a turmeric board in Nizamabad. Local farmers were expecting that Modi would announce the board in Nizamabad on Tuesday. In a surprise, but welcome move, the Prime Minister made the announcement during the Mahbubnagar meeting on Sunday.

BJP leaders thronged Nizamabad agriculture market yard and performed ‘palabhishekam’ to a portrait of Modi and distributed sweets. Nizamabad market yard is one of the biggest turmeric markets in the country.

BJP state executive committee member Dhanpal Suryanarayana Gupta said that following this development, farmers will voluntarily attend the party’s public meeting slated for Tuesday.

BJP state general secretary G. Premender Reddy thanked Modi and said the party had honoured its commitment to Telangana. In order to ensure an integrated development of the state, the people should support Modi’s leadership, he said.

Meanwhile, party leaders burst crackers in Bodhan town. State executive committee members Medapati Prakash Reddy, Vaddi Mohan Reddy and others gathered at Ambedkar chowrasta and raised slogans praising Modi. They said that the board will bolster the prospects of farmers in Nizamabad, Jagtial and Nirmal districts.

Arvind thanked Modi for sanctioning the board and pointed out that Union home minister Amit Shah had played a key role in this regard. He said that the party’s national general secretary and state in-charge Sunil Bansal and state unit president G. Kishan Reddy had taken forward the initiative.
