Dharmaraj Adat named vice-chancellor of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit

Dr Adat, a Sanskrit scholar, is a senior professor and the former head of Department of Sanskrit Literature.

KOCHI: Dr Dharmaraj Adat (Dr Dharmarajan P.K.)  assumed the office of the vice-chancellor of the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, on Thursday after being appointed to the post by the Governor P Sathasivam. Dr Adat, pro-vice-chancellor of the university, was functioning as VC in-charge ever since his predecessor Dr M.C. Dileep Kumar demitted office recently. Dr Adat, a Sanskrit scholar, is a senior professor and the former head of Department of Sanskrit Literature.

He passed both BA and MA from Calicut University with top rank. He secured PhD from Calicut University for his thesis on the Sanskrit poem ‘Keralodayam’ by K.N. Ezhuthachan. Dr Adat officially assumed the charges in the presence of Syndicate members, staff and students. He is the first person to be made the VC from the academic community of the university.

Before his stint at the university, Dr Adat was a faculty in the Sanskrit department of Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, and Bishop Moore College, Mavelikkara. He held positions in Purogamana Kalasahitya Sangham (PUKASA) and was also a senate member in Calicut University.  Dr Adat was a member of the Syndicate and academic council of Sanskrit University. Dr Adat, a native of Adat in Thrissur, has authored over 35 books and has bagged innumerable awards including Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award.
