Bhopal: Anju Thomas (35) who returned to India on Wednesday after ‘marrying’ her Facebook (FB) friend in Pakistan has been declared ‘persona non grata’ in her native village of Bona under Gwalior district in Madhya Pradesh by the locals for her ‘disgraceful act’.

Villagers have vowed to stop her from entering the village for ‘bringing disrepute’ not only to her family but also to her native place by ‘marrying’ a Pakistan man after abandoning her two children and husband.

“She is a disgrace to our village and her family. She is not welcome in our village. We will ensure that she does not enter the village on the pretext of meeting her parents”, Veer Singh Gurjar, a local villager, told this newspaper on Thursday.

Anju’s ex-classmate Dharmendra Gurjar said that she has forfeited her moral right to visit her native village after marrying a man in Pakistan and would not be allowed to visit the village ‘under any circumstances’.

The villagers have begun keeping vigil at the entry and exit points of the village to deny her to come to the village to visit her parents after learning that she has returned to India on Wednesday.

“Her family members have already declared that she is not welcome in their house. We will meet her father to persuade him to disown her permanently”, the village sarpanch Ravi Gurjar said.

Her father Gaya Prasad Thomas, a tailor by profession, has already declared that ‘My daughter is as good as dead for my family’.

Anju Thomas, mother of two children, crossed the Wagah border to enter India on Wednesday.

She was then taken to the BSF camp set up in the area to complete certain formalities, sources said.

She was born in Bona and married in Bhiwadi under Khairthal district in Rajasthan.

She is the mother of two children.

The woman travelled to Pakistan on a tourist visa on July 21 this year after allegedly telling her husband that she was going to Jaipur to visit her friend.

Later, her purported pre-wedding shoots with her FB friend Nasirullha of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan surfaced on social media platforms leaving her father and husband shell shocked.

She had called her father several times during her stay in Pakistan pleading him to arrange interactions with her daughter.
