3 killed in mishap on way to New Year party in Kovai
Another friend Thiyagu, 22, was admitted to the ICU of the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition, police said.
COIMBATORE: In an unfortunate development, three persons including a college student were killed and five others were injured when the car in which they were travelling collided with a lorry near Sulur near here on Sunday night.
Police said that Rahul, 19, a native of Namakkal district and student of a private Engineering college in Coimbatore, along with eight of his friends were travelling by a car at attend a New Year party around midnight on Sunday when the accident occurred.
The speeding car while approaching Sulur collided head-on with the lorry parked on the roadside, killing Rahul and two of his friends, Prashanth, 24 and Mohammed Kalif, 19, on the spot. Another friend Thiyagu, 22, was admitted to the ICU of the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition, police said.
At least four other friends of Rahul’s friends, S Naveen, R Naveen, Sadham, Hussein and Suresh from Tirupur, who travelled by the ill-fated car were admitted to a private hospital.
Prashanth got married just three months ago and Rahul was the students' wing president of the TMK for Tirupur district, police said, adding, Mohammed Kalif was working in a garment factory.
