HYDERABAD: Telangana High Court Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, patron-in-chief of the Telangana District Legal Services Authority (TSLSA), on Monday virtually inaugurated 23 newly constituted district LSAs in the state.

The DLSAs were set up in continuance of the establishment of judicial districts on June 2, 2022.

Addressing a programme at the Central Hall on the High Court premises, Justice Bhuyan said that the shortcomings notice last year would be overcome with the establishment of the 23 DSLAs. Justice Ponuguti Naveen Rao, executive chairman of TSLSA, and judges of the High Court were present at the event.

He thanked the Telangana government for its cooperation in carving out the district bodies in a short time. Calling it a momentous occasion, Justice Bhuyan said that legal service was not charity but the constitutional duty of judges, lawyers, legal aid counsels and para-legal volunteers. “The main endeavour of legal services authorities is to provide access to justice to the last citizen of the state,” he said.

After bifurcation, the TS Legal Services Authority was functioning with 11 DLSAs and 88 mandal legal service committees. The 23 DLSAs will now take the place of the mandal committees.

The DLSAs were set up for 23 districts — Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Rajanna-Sircilla, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Jogulamba Gadwal, Nagarkurnool, Naraynpet, Wanaparthy, Medak, Siddipet, Suryapet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Kamareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Jangaon, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Hanumakonda, Mulugu and Mahbubabad.
