Bhopal: A hoarding wishing Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on his birthday on January one was found ‘stolen’ in Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, leading the local BJP leader to lodge a police complaint in this regard.

This was the first of its kind incident in Madhya Pradesh, police said.

The 10 ft-high and 18 ft-wide hoarding was put up at the entrance of Jai Vilas Palace, the residence of Mr Scindia in Gwalior, wishing the Union minister on his birthday falling on January one.

“We had put up a hoarding wishing Mr Scindia on his birthday on behalf of the district unit of BJP on Sunday night. Much to our surprise, the hoarding was found missing on Monday, birthday of Mr Scindia. We had searched for the hoarding and filed a complaint with the local police when we failed to trace it”, Gwalior district unit BJP secretary Satyendra Sharma told this newspaper on Tuesday.

The complaint was filed by Mr Sharma in Jhansi Road police station in Gwalior city late on Monday night.

Police later visited the spot to probe the matter.

“We have received a complaint regarding the missing of a hoarding put up near Jai Vilas Palace. A police team visited the spot for enquiry. Probe is on into the matter. This is the first such case I have come across. Many such hoardings were also put up at different places in Gwalior city. But, only the hoarding near the palace was reported to be missing”, Jhansi Road police station in-charge Rashid Khan told this newspaper.

Police suspected that the rag pickers might have stolen the hoarding to use the canvas used in it to cover their body to protect them from the current chilly winter.
