Steps to Resolve Fishermen's Problems, says Union Minister
Vijayawada: Union fisheries minister Purushottam Rupala led the second day of Sagar Parikrama Phase-X at Vodarevu in Prakasam district on Tuesday. He assured that necessary steps will be taken to resolve the challenges being faced by fishermen.
MPs Beeda Masthan Rao and Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, MLA Karanam Balaram Krishna Murthy, MLC Pothula Suneetha, fisheries commissioner K. Kanna Babu, and union joint secretary Neetu Kumari Prasad were among those present on the occasion.
The union minister gave away FFPO certificates, safety kits, Kisan credit cards and so on. Rupala explained that Sagar Parikrama is a one-of-a-kind mega outreach to encourage sustainable fishing and ensure that government initiatives reach fishermen at the last mile.
The Sagar Parikrama on the day also reached Nizampatnam Fishing Harbour, Gilakaladindi Fishermen village in Krishna district and Machilipatnam fishing harbour. In all, around 9,500 fishermen, various fisheries stakeholders and scholars attended the Sagar Parikrama programme at various places.
