Hyderabad: An accident victim alleged on Thursday that he was asked for Rs 1,000 by Madhapur police personnel to file first information report (FIR) on his complaint.

The complainant, B. Shravan, said that at about 10 pm on February 24, he and his wife Keerti were travelling on their bike when a speeding car rammed into their vehicle. Keerti suffered critical injuries.

The car driver fled the scene, but returned after 20 minutes and took the couple to a private hospital. “After the accident I had to perform CPR on my wife, she luckily survived but is still unconscious,” Shravan said.

Shravan said that he collected footage from a petrol pump near the scene of the incident, from which he realised that the car which transported them to the hospital was the same as the one that had rammed them.

He claimed that he provided the CCTV footage to the police, who were claiming till then that none of the cameras on the road was working.

“A duty officer sent a constable, who asked Rs 1,000 to file an FIR. I did not ask the name of the officer. I wanted an FIR copy to claim my damaged bike’s insurance and when I explained my situation, the officer hesitated to insist for money and gave me the FIR (250/2023),” he said.

The police said that they are yet to track the car as it had a temporary registration number.
