HYDERABAD: Two days after the suicide of a 16-year-old student in their classroom, the police have not taken action against four staff members — Acharya, Jagan, Krishna Reddy and Naresh — of Sri Chaitanya Junior College who he named in his purported suicide note.

Sources said they had been taken into custody on Thursday but the police remained tight-lipped about their arrest.

“It's a sensitive case. We are gathering evidence against Acharya, Jagan, Krishna Reddy and Naresh, whose names are mentioned in the complaint of the victim's father,” the investigation officer said.

The victim’s family members said they were in constant contact with Narsingi police but were not being informed about the developments in the case.

Earlier in the day, the Narsingi police sent the suicide note for forensic tests to match the victim’s handwriting. A special crime team interacted with close friends of the victim, sources said. They said that a video had captured a college staff member abusing and thrashing a student in the classroom.

Police have collected the video as technical evidence. They will be going through the CCTV footage, in one of which the victim is purportedly seen holding a rope and entering a classroom around 10:15 pm on February 28.

“While we were mourning his death, the college management sternly warned parents of other students not to say anything against the management either to the police or media, a friend of the victim informed me,” disclosed the victim's relative.

The management has warned everyone not to speak anything against them. Moreover, police cannot question his classmates as they are minors, a family friend of the victim and a criminal lawyer said.
