Vijayawada: Chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday urged people who attended the Tablighi Jamaat meeting in Delhi to voluntarily come forward and get tested for symptoms of Covid-19.

“Get tested even for the slightest symptoms like cold and cough without attaching any stigma to it. The disease is like fever, which can be effectively cured with proper treatment provided by the government. Patients are being cured and also discharged,” the chief minister stated while addressing people on television.

He pointed out that 80 per cent of cases have proved negative after home quarantine. Only 4 percent of the people required treatment in ICUs.

Jagan Mohan Reddy disclosed that of the total 87 persons who have tested positive in the state, 70 are those who returned from Delhi. “As many as 1,085 persons attended the Delhi prayer meeting. We have tracked and taken samples of 585 persons. While 70 have tested positive, results of the remaining cases are awaited. We are yet to trace 21 people,” he said.

The chief minister asked people to dial 104 if they have any symptoms like cold, cough or breathing difficulties. Expert medical teams will visit their houses, take samples for testing and advise them accordingly, he stated, urging people to strictly follow government guidelines and maintain social distancing.

Jagan Mohan Reddy also called upon staff of private hospitals and medical colleges to engage in coronavirus prevention work.

He thanked employees and pensioners for giving their consent to making adjustments in their payments. He pointed out that while expenditure has increased, income has reduced drastically.
