For first time, Dalit is prez of TS HC advocates body
Hyderabad: Palle Nageswar Rao was elected president of the Telangana High Court Advocates Association (THCAA) for 2023-24. He became the first candidate from the Scheduled Caste community to be elected to the post.
The achievement is all the more significant as no candidate from the SC community had contested the post since 1950. In the elections conducted on Friday for the new executive body of the THCAA, Nageswar Rao secured 1,120 votes out of 2,981 polled.
In his 29 years of practice, Nageswar Rao has worked as standing counsel of the Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam, additional public prosecutor in undivided Andhra Pradesh and as government oleader of the general administration department in Telangana state.
Chengalva Kalyan Rao was elected THCAA vice-president, Pradeep Reddy and Puli Devender secretaries and Vangala Poornasri was elected treasurer.
Elections were conducted on Friday in a peaceful manner at the High Court premises.
Elsewhere on Friday, advocate G. Kiran Kumar was elected president of the Nampally Criminal Courts Bar Association and Vinod Kumar Maroodi as president of the Hyderabad City Civil Courts Bar Association.
D. Ravindhar was elected president of the Ranga Reddy District Courts Bar Association and Madhava Reddy K. general secretary.
