Eight Youth Congress leaders held for calf slaughter

The YC leaders were suspended after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi criticised their act.

Kozhikode: Eight Youth Congress leaders, who  publicly slaughtered  a bullock calf in Kannur a few days ago,  were arrested on Thursday. They included YC Kannur Parliament constituency president Rijil Makkutty, state general secretary Joshi Kandathil and Azhikode YC block president Sharafuddin Katambally. They were later released on bail.

The leaders  were  protesting against the central government’s notification  banning the sale of cattle for slaughter  in the markets. The Kannur police had registered a case under the Kerala police Act 120 (a) following the complaint of Yuva Morcha leader C.C. Ratheesh.    The YC leaders were suspended after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi criticised their act.
