KOTTAYAM: A mother inflicted burn injuries on her nine- year-old son for allegedly taking Rs 10 from the shirt pocket of his father for  buying snacks on Wednesday.       The incident happened at Kumaramangalam near  Thodupzha and the police registered a case against the mother  Remya. The Child Welfare Committee authorities who were alerted by the neighbours took the child to the hospital.

They said Remya had found the boy and her five-year-old younger son eating puffs and asked them where they got the money to buy them. When they did not give a proper answer, she assaulted the boy with embers.   The child told the CWC officials that  his  parents used to beat him up badly. The father fled the scene when the cops came in search of him and is still absconding.  The police took the statement of the child on Thursday.
