Vijayawada: Diverting  traffic from the National Highway and blocking MG Road at Benz Circle for more than eight hours in the name of Nava Nirmana Deeksha is facing criticism from the people.

The state government, which is denying permission for peaceful protests, is being criticised for proposing to organise a huge meeting on the main road on June 2.

While Telangana state is celebrating Telangana formation day on June 2, AP state government proposes to organise Nava Nirmana Deeksha to mark the bifurcation of AP to keep up the spirit of development.

Maha Sankalpam is being organised with a huge public meeting at Benz Circle, which is considered as the heart of the capital city of Amaravati every year across state at the same time.

The Krishna district administration, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) and Vijayawada city police are busy making arrangements for the event and decided to divert traffic from 4 am to 12 noon on June 2.

City police have designed a route map for diverting the traffic in the city and highway traffic through alternative roads.

Citizens are not happy with the series of public events conducted on roads by diverting the traffic.

“We are in support of the state government and we don’t oppose Nava Nirmana Deeksha which is taken up in the right spirit in the state. But obstructing the traffic in major junction of the state and creating public inconvenience is not correct. The event is to be conducted during peak hours and traffic across city will be blocked. Government should conduct such events without troubling public,”says S. Lakshmi Tulasi, a private employee.

Opposition parties are finding fault with the state government for proposing to block Benz Circle for more than eight hours for the Nava Nirmana Deeksha programme.

“The state government proposes to organise the event for the sake of political benefit. Government, which is rejecting permission for peaceful candle rallies and protests in the city is misusing its power and creating disturbance for the public,”says Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Raghuveera Reddy.
