Jagananna Palle Velugu Lights Up 10,261 Villages In AP

VIJAYAWADA: Chief secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy said they are strengthening the street-lighting system in 10,261 gram panchayats of Andhra Pradesh under the Jagananna Palle Velugu programme.

The CS reviewed the Palle Velugu programme, under which Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has installed 23.63 lakh LED streetlights in 10,261 villages of Andhra Pradesh.

The meeting, attended by special chief secretary B. Rajasekhar, panchayat raj and rural development commissioner A. Surya Kumari and officials of EESL, decided to conduct an extensive scientific survey of village street lighting to assess the functionality of LEDs. The survey is expected to conclude within a week.

Rajasekhar and Surya Kumari said district collectors have been instructed to ensure the success of LED street lighting programme. They explained that the survey will identify the number of electrical poles, location of pole, whether the street light is installed, street light type, installation agency, street light wattage, whether glowing, if not glowing physical condition of the light, whether the light is connected to centralised control monitoring system, whether or not the third wire is connected and whether or not the lights are connected to the electrical metre.

Chief secretary Jawahar underlined that the government is firm to make Jagananna Palle Velugu a role model in the country.
