BENGALURU: The BBMP, which has shown a soft corner to actor Darshan's house and Orion Mall, is determined to bulldoze the alleged encroachment on the drains at the Prestige project at Kadubisanahalli near Bellandur.

Irrigation Minister T.B. Jayachandra and BBMP authorities said that The Prestige Tech Park near Bellandur project has encroached upon major portion of Koramangala-Challaghatta valley (KC valley) and it has come under the radar of demolition.

BBMP chief engineer, Storm Water Drain (SWD) wing, Siddegowda told Deccan Chronicle that prima-facie it appears that the builder has encroached upon the drain and shrunk it to mere 15 feet. However, a survey by the revenue department will help ascertain the exact extent of encroachment, he said.

The irrigation department has taken up project to treat sewerage water and pump to Narasapura near Kolar to fill water tanks. The department has prepared the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and as per the report the pipeline runs in the middle of the drain. But, there is no sufficient width to lay the pipeline and it prima facie appears encroached, he added.

The drains connecting Bellandur and Varthur lake were wide enough since it is the outermost point of the city to vent out the water. The BBMP has asked to review the plans given to Prestige builders and to find out the extent of encroachment with the help of revenue officers, he added. Irrigation Minister Jayachandra alleged that Prestige builders have encroached upon the drains.

The drains have been covered with concrete slabs and have been reduced to just 15 feet from 150 feet. He said the BBMP and revenue department have been directed to provide details about the drains.

He has also directed Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) authorities to check the status of land when it was allotted to Prestige. The complete details and plans of the tech park has been sought. Based on the survey suitable action will be initiated, he added.
