Hyderabad: In a move that will usher in an IT revolution in the city’s southern part, IT minister K.T. Rama Rao on Monday laid the foundation for a new IT tower, iTek Nucleus, at Malakpet. The 30-storey building will come up in 11 acres and will have a built-up area of about 1.5 million sq.ft. It will create employment opportunities to about 50,000 people and the project will be ready in 36 months, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Rama Rao said that the state government is focused on spreading IT culture across Hyderabad. It has already brought a ‘growth in dispersion’ policy and has taken IT to the eastern side in Uppal and beyond and to the north near Kompally, he said.

With a Metro Rail station in the vicinity, efforts will be made to connect it with the IT tower to ensure hassle-free travel, Rama Rao said, adding that youth from areas adjoining Malakpet need not travel all the way to Hitec City for work. The state government will make efforts to get technology giants to set up their operations in the Malakpet IT tower, he said.

“Malakpet has till now been known for its TV tower. iTek Nucleus will be a new iconic structure in the region,” he said.

Rao stated that the investor-friendly policies of the government gave a boost to the IT sector and attracted global IT companies to set up their offices here, accelerating the sector’s overall growth in the state.  In the last two years, Hyderabad surpassed Bengaluru in the number of technology jobs created. Telangana accounted for 44 per cent of all technology jobs created in India this year, an improvement from last year’s 33 per cent, he said.  Telangana tops the country in per capita income at Rs 3.17 lakh, Rao said.

As part of the efforts to strengthen infrastructure and the transport system, the government is preparing a detailed plan to develop 415 km of metro line, he said.
