Thiruvananthapuram: The  CBSE schools which collect capitation fees would be asked to pay ten times that amount as fine. This was informed  by the CBSE to the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights on Tuesday. The commission had sought the opinion of the CBSE on a complaint relating to a school in Ernakulam district. The CBSE issued an order to that school to comply with the directives of the commission on the fees.

The CBSE said  the schools are to be run as social service institutions and not business endeavours.   It has issued a circular to all CBSE schools on the issue and asked them  to abide by the affiliation bylaw, the NOC issued by the general education department and the orders of the commission and report  to it within seven days. The CBSE had also made it mandatory for school managements to disclose their fee structure in the public domain and submit a report to the board. Any fees collected above this would be considered as capitation fees.
