Thrissur corporation has waste disposal scheme as 60th Kerala Piravi celebrations

Thrissur: Thrissur corporation has launched a decentralized waste management scheme on Tuesday as a part of its projects implemented as a part of 60th Kerala Piravi celebrations. Mayor Ajitha Jayarajan inaugurated the programme which focuses on its separation and management on its source itself. The total cost of the project is pegged at Rs 4 crore.
The project will be implemented by collecting organic waste from houses and apartments in the city and will be converted it to organic manure. The corporation will distribute aerobic composting unit named ‘Smart BIOBIN’ to 25,000 individual housesholds in its limit and treat the waste at the source itself, health standing committee chairperson M. L. Rossy told DC.
Dr. Girija who has developed the BIOBIN said that said that it was easy to use due to its small size. It would also not have foul smell, she added. Mayor Ajitha Jayarajan said that the corporation would soon come up with a permanent solution to the menace of shopkeepers and residents across the corporation burning plastic and other inorganic waste in open flouting the ban imposed by the High Court.
