Jayadeva to Conduct Cardiac Tests for KSRTC Employees

Bengaluru: Taking note that the heart related diseases among drivers and conductors are more prevalent over 40 years, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation on Thursday entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, Bengaluru to conduct ten types of cardiac medical check-ups. The MoU with Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology is for a period of 5 years.

Managing Director of KSRTC Anbukumar said on behalf of the employee who undergoes the test, the Corporation will pay Rs 1,200 and Rs 2.55 crore a year to the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology and the health scheme will facilitate 62 percent of its employees.

Under the MoU, employees attached to Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation attained 45 years and above are covered while employees of KSRTC attained 40 years and above will be benefitted. Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology having a unit in Mysuru city, employees can also make use of the scheme.

At present, KSRTC has 34,000 employees working out of it 24,686 are drivers and conductors and officials concerned have observed that heart attacks/ cardiac related diseases have become very common over 40 years and above owing to working style, lifestyle among other reasons. The MoU is aimed at conducting regular cardiac check-ups/examinations to help prevent possible heart attacks and taking precautionary measures.

Minister for Transport Ramalinga Reddy said taking care of the employees is the top priority and thanked the Director of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology C.N. Manjunath for implementing the scheme at an economical cost.
