Kerala: Panel to monitor self financing colleges
The meeting also decided to strengthen the parent-teachers' associations and the college unions in self-financing colleges.
Thiruvananthapuram: The state government decided to constitute a panel headed by education minister C. Raveendranath to monitor academic quality of self- financing colleges and look into complaints of victimisation of students. The decision was taken at a meeting of the V-Cs convened by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here. It will comprise four VCs apart from the minister. The meeting asked the minister to form an admission supervisory and fee regulatory committee to look into the fee and admission procedures in self-financing arts and science colleges.
This will be on the lines of similar committees for self-financing professional colleges. The meeting also decided to strengthen the parent-teachers’ associations and the college unions in self-financing colleges. MG University vice-chancellor Babu Sebastian told this newspaper that the Chief Minister had said that the government wanted to ensure the quality of education and build democratic platforms to address the issues of students in self-financing colleges. Health minister K.K. Shyalaja and agriculture minister V.S. Sunilkumar also attended the meeting.
