Week-long Thrissur International Film Festival from today

Events will be organised at the fest in memory of actor Kalabhavan Mani, Vayalar Ramavarma and director Pavithran.

Thrissur: The 12th International Film Festival Thrissur (IFFT 2017) will be inaugurated in Thrissur on Friday. In the week-long fest, more than 65 feature films and 25 short films will be screened in the state-owned Kairali and Sree Theatres along with cinema halls which will be set up at the Banerjee Club Auditorium, the Centre for Media Studies and other places. Apart from these venues, the films will be screened in other centers at Thriprayar, Mala, Aryampadam, Wadakkanchery, Guruvayur among others.

The fest will be inaugurated by Industries minister A.C. Moideen at Banerjee Club at 6.30 p.m. 'Parched' directed by Leena Yadav will be the opening film at the show. In the Indian Panorama category, seven films will be screened while in the world film category, 21 films from 21 different countries will be screened. A total of six films will be shown in the fest of Mrinal Sen and K.G. George in the retrospective category. Events will be organised at the fest in memory of actor Kalabhavan Mani, Vayalar Ramavarma and director Pavithran.

Thrissur Chalachithra Kendram is organizing the fest with the support of the Thrissur Corporation, the District Panchayat, the K.W. Joseph Trust, the Banerjee Club, the Centre for Media Studies, St Thomas and several other organizations. "Award winning films from the International Film Festival of India in Goa and Kerala International Film Festival held in Thiruvanathapuram will be screened,” patron of the fest Jose Alukka said.
