KOZHIKODE: Mr Vinod Rai,  former comptroller and auditor-general of India and the present chairman of Banks Board Bureau, has called upon the IIM-K students to help build  a resurgent India “which can propel itself to become an economic superpower.”

Addressing the 18th annual convocation ceremony on the Indian Institute of Management- Kozhikode campus on Saturday, he said,  “the Indian economy was displaying excellent signs of growth, buoyancy and remarkable resilience but from attempting to reach double digit growth in our GDP, we are sliding back to six percent.”

“It is not enough to be a country having the fourth largest number of billionaires in the world and yet hardly have any globally accepted patents to showcase our industrial or manufacturing muscle,” he said.

Along with the 358 post-graduation students of IIM-K,   267 students of first batch of Executive Post-Graduation Programme from IIM-K’s satellite campus in Ernakulum and Kozhikode and Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) received the convocation certificates.

The IIM-K also celebrated  20 years of  academic excellence of the institution since  it started  functioning in Kozhikode. The institution’s  director-in- charge Prof Kulbhushan Balooni delivered the annual report. In tune with the national agenda of Make in India and Digital India Campaign, he  spoke about conducting ‘Start- O- Sphere,’ an annual event organized by the entrepreneurship cell of IIM-K.

This will bring together IIM-K’s alumni who are entrepreneurs to share their experiences and motivate students to contribute to the economy through their own ventures, he said.
