Thiruvananthapuram: BJP national president Amit Shah will lay the foundation stone for the party headquarters at Mararji Bhavan here  between 7 a.m.  and 8 a.m. on Sunday.    But Mr P. P. Mukundan, former organising general secretary of the BJP, has not been invited to the function.   It may be recalled that the BJP state headquarters was shifted to Mararji Bhavan at Aristo Junction in  2000 from the earlier office at Tutors Lane at Statue during Mr Mukundan’s tenure as organisational general secretary.

Mr Mukundan,  who returned to the party last year,  however, congratulated BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan on the ceremony.   “I feel proud that I was instrumental in getting the property for the organisation. At this juncture, I am hoping that the new headquarters will benefit  Kerala society and also the younger generation as a centre for development and guidance,” he said  in a press release. It was Prof. Narayanan Nair, the then BJP treasurer who brokered the deal with former bureaucrat and Congress leader S. Krishnakumar’s family who owned the 55-cent property.  It was purchased in 1990.   “During my tenure it was decided to have a three-storeyed office building. But  the plan met with inordinate delay,”  Mr Mukundan told DC.
