Faulty drains flooded Mangaluru!
Mr Senthil has asked the officials to take necessary steps to prevent a similar occurrence in future.
Mangaluru: The overflowing storm water drains and ongoing highway work were partly responsible for Tuesday’s floods in Mangaluru that claimed severall lives and left a trail of destruction after only a few hours of heavy rainfall.
Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil, who had asked the officials led by Commissioner of Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to submit a report on the encroachments on the drains within two days, said there were some blatant violations in the structure of the drains that blocked the free flow of water.
“I have asked the officials to clear them immediately and the work has already started,” he told Deccan Chronicle.
The Deputy Commissioner has also ordered the officials to do a survey of the drains and clear them of any other blockages, “Officials will do the survey with the help of maps and take steps to clear them too,” he said.
Meanwhile, with the highway work too adding to the flood, Mr Senthil has asked the officials to take necessary steps to prevent a similar occurrence in future.
“I have visited the Mahaveera Circle and other places and directed the highway officials to take action. We will do whatever is required to ensure there is no problem in future,” he added.
