Kerala University to institute award in memory of G Karthikeyan
The budget was approved by the university after discussions at the senate meeting on Saturday.
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala University has decided to institute an award in memory of former speaker G. Karthikeyan for the best college union. The proposal for the Karthikeyan memorial award was included in the Kerala University budget for 2016-17 presented by finance committee convener Rosamma Philip at the Kerala University senate on Friday. The budget was approved by the university after discussions at the senate meeting on Saturday.
The university has also instituted awards for three best colleges, five best short films and the team that wins the first position in the university drama festival. It has set aside Rs 3 lakh for the Gurusreshta Puraskaram given to the teachers who completed 25 years in teaching. It also announced the setting up two chairs in the name of poets ONV Kurup and Ayyappa Panicker.
New courses will be started, including PG diploma in Asian studies, PG diploma in bio-diversity conservation, PG diploma in bio-process tech, Malayalam computing certificate course, LLM(evening), MA theatre arts, diploma courses for film studies and Information literacy online course. An amount of Rs 2 lakh has been earmarked for the digitisation of Hortus Malabaricus and the publication of epic books. The university will introduce a digital contents creation lab and e-learning solution project at a cost of Rs 1 crore.
