Lt Guv Kiran Bedi visits Puducherry central prison

PUDUCHERRY: Lt Governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi on Tuesday made an unscheduled visit to the central prison here. Bedi, a former IPS officer, put forward suggestions to make the jail a centre for rehabilitation and reform for crime prevention, an official press release said.
Training to be given to jail officials on practices followed by other model prisons and opportunities of education to be provided to prisoners, she said. Seeking the help of NGOs to train and upskill prisoners on agriculture, weaving, handicrafts etc, promotion of yoga and sports among prisoners, installation of feedback boxes in different departments in the jail for grievance redressal, promotion of regular 'shramadaan' by prisoners to keep jail premises clean are the other suggestions made by the Lt Governor.
