Amaravati: The first automatic pay and use biotoilet was started at Guntur on Friday.

In an innovative move, the Guntur Municipal Corporation started this automatic pay and use e-toilet at market centre on an experimental basis. The public can use this e-toilet by inserting one and two rupee coins in the slot of the e-toilet.

The GMC used readymade toilets during the recent Krishna Pushkaralu in Puskar Nagars and other areas of the city which helped the public largely. Guntur city is the district headquarter and nearly 50,000 people will come to the city every day on various works.

There are public toilets in NTR bus station, railway station and the Sulabh is operating toilets in few areas of the city only. The shortage of public toilets in busy centers and market areas is forcing the public to pee in the public areas which is creating troubles.

GMC incharge commissioner, R. Krishna Kapa-rdhi said that this e-toilet has been launched on pilot project basis under which GMC will collect opinion of the public and if this proves good to the people then the GMC would start more automatic e-toilets in the city. He said that the automatic mechanism is similar to coin box telephone as the door of the toilet will be opened after inserting the coin in the slot and water, light, fan and flush is available inside the toilet. Electronic voice would help the user about using the e-toilet.

He said that the bio-clean system will clean the toilet automatically. The charge is a nominal Rs 2 per head and the GMC is planning to install these e-toilets in Gujjanagundla, Arundelpeta, Palnadu bus stand and Market centre areas soon.
