Kozhikode: Girls start hospital equipment repair
One week camp under the Punarjani' programme of NSS.
KOZHIKODE: Girls at the KMCT College of Engineering for Women under the National Service Scheme (NSS) have started maintenance work on the Government Women and Children Hospital at Kottaparamba. The one week camp under the ‘Punarjani’ programme of the NSS under the technical education department aims to repair defunct biomedical, electrical, electronic equipment and furniture worth Rs 41 lakh at the hospital.
Some 70 students from various streams such as biomedical, civil, computer science and electronics and communication started the camp Friday and would have Onam here without a sabbatical. “We have a list of equipment to be rectified besides painting cots, cleaning and other activities,” said Aswathy M., NSS volunteer secretary. The equipment includes X-ray machine, suction apparatus, suction pumps, generators, ECG apparatus, nebulisers, BP apparatus, furniture like delivery cot, surgical cot, drip stand, trolley, wheelchairs and computers.
The programme officer V. Ashwin Raj and another volunteer secretary Lishna P. lead the camp. “The Punarjani is a great help for its noble cause. Many dust-biting equipment had been refurbished. It would be a wonderful experience for students,” said the hospital superintendent Dr K.C. Rameshan. Rs 19.50 crore worth equipment were made functional through Punarjani between 2016 December 19 and 2017 March 31, through 74 camps with the participation of 4,728 volunteers from engineering and polytechnic colleges across the state.
