Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir’s police chief Dilbag Singh on Saturday asserted that the Union territory will soon be terror-free and that the next big challenge for the law-enforcing agencies is the growing drug menace.

“J&K is all set to become a terror-free region. Terrorism is at an all-time low and only a few terrorists are active. We are working to eradicate the remnants of terrorism,” he told reporters in Sopore.

As per local news agency KNO, Mr Singh said that the police will now take on the challenge of the drug menace and will ensure to eradicate drug abuse and narco-smuggling from J&K. “We are committed to making J&K a drug-free place,” he added.

Giving an example of the Kashmir Valley returning to peace and normalcy, the DGP said, “Sopore was once known as the hotbed of militancy and terrorism but today businesses are flourishing everywhere here. Peace prevails on the roads and there is a smile on the faces of the people”.

To a query about the incidents wherein two members of the minority Sikh community were found dead in Baramulla and Tral areas of the Valley earlier this week, the DGP said that such incidents are “general ones”. He, however, added that cases have been transferred to the crime branch.”
