Hyderabad: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi referring to the possibility of the Rohini Commission recommending key changes to the OBC quota policy batted for an increase in the reservation for the community.

Posting on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) he wrote, "Over 50 per cent of India’s population is forced to compete for a paltry 27 percent (reservation). The Narendra Modi government must breach the 50 percent ceiling limit and expand reservations for those groups that could never benefit from reservations. A few dominant castes have cornered all benefits (sic)."

Referring to the need for sub classification of the reservation quota, he added, "Sub-classification should be done on the basis of parity so that the child of a small weaver family is not forced to compete with a former zamindar’s son. Those communities that are included in state BC list should automatically be included in Central OBC list."

The Justice G. Rohini commission’s report had submitted its report, said to be over 1,000 pages, to the Centre last month. It deals with allocation of OBC quota and second provides an updated list of all OBC castes.
