Demand high for administration, sales jobs in Kozhikode
Close to 200 companies registered with district employability centre
KOZHIKODE: The majority of youth registered with the employability centre under the professional employment exchange here prefer administration and sales career jobs. Close to 200 companies are registered with the centre with a majority from the automobile and manufacturing sector. “Girls usually prefer office type jobs and boys are interested in sales. We are targeting more opportunities for civil, chemical diploma holders,” says Anjali S. Nair, the centre head.
Though 20 IT companies are registered, the IT craze is yet to take wing as the IT parks of the state government and the ULCC are not fully up and running. “Companies like Cybrosis Technologies, De Sparrow IT Solutions, Nucore Software Solutions are our clients and we are expecting more to join,” Mrs Anjali added. According to her, more than 2,000 had been successful at their jobs which they got through job fairs conducted through the centre.
Since its inception in June 2013, only two companies had been put on the blacklist due to the inordinate delay in paying salaries. Youngsters whose qualification ranges from Plus-two to Post graduation are being registered at the centre after being charged Rs 250. Job seekers are given skill development courses comprising communication skills, computer basics and interview tips. “Most of the youth fail at communication skills. So, we lay stress on that aspect,” Anjali explained. The employability centre has been conducting job drives regularly at the centre and full-fledged job fairs at public venues once every three months.
