KOCHI: Educators have called up on teachers and principals of schools to trigger the zest for inquisitiveness in children and uncover their internal world and thus lead the crop of new generation learners. Delhi St Stephen’s College former principal Dr Valsan Thampu said that schools can attain excellence only by triggering the zest for knowledge in children. He was addressing principals of over 800 schools across the state on the concluding day of the All Kerala CBSE Principals’ Conference and Training-2016 organised by Confederation of Kerala Sahodaya Complexes here.

“Students should be called to break boundaries and leap forward to reach out to new frontiers of knowledge. Today’s education fails to reach out to the inner world of children. The travel should be both outward and inward. Science and technology cannot throw light on this inner world. Only when the inner world is realised, life becomes complete,” Dr Valsan Thampu said. CBSE resource trainer Veena Raizada during her session reminded the principals of undertaking the process of learning, unlearning and relearning.

“This is important in the case of both children and teachers. Unlearning concepts that are obsolete is very important,” she said while emphasizing on web-based research. Ms Veena reminded the principals that in the modern era the onus of academic performance and accountability has shifted to schools, which was not the case 50 years ago. “Create the learning environment for young inquisitive learners. Set vision and mission standards for the school. You have to move from structured curriculum to skill based curriculum focusing on competency development,” she said.
