AP Constable\'s Family to Receive ₹30 Lakh Ex-Gratia
KAKINADA: AP Director General of Police K. Rajendranath Reddy has announced Rs 30 lakh ex-gratia for family members of constable Gandham Narendra of Agiripalli police station in Nuziveedu mandal of Eluru district, who died when he was hit on his head by a drunken man participating in the Ganesh immersion procession on September 30.
According to police, when the procession of Agiripalli village Ganesh started for immersion, constable Narendra advised the organisers to halt the procession, as the time limit for procession had been over for the day. He sought their cooperation saying they could immerse the idol the next day.
One of the processionists Ulasa Ramakrishna (25), who was in the procession, hit the constable on the head with a log. Narendra received serious injuries but died even though the police department admitted him into a private hospital in Hyderabad for treatment.
The DGP said the issue had been brought to the notice of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who announced that Rs 30 lakh ex-gratia be given to family of the deceased constable.
Rajendranath Reddy said state government would help police personnel who sacrifice their lives while on duty.
