Indira Gandhi Zoological Park celebrates 69th Wildlife Week

Visakhapatnam:The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) in Visakhapatnam kicked off the 69th Wildlife Week 2023 with a grand inaugural event on Monday.

The event was attended by Srikantha Natha Reddy, Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF), Visakhapatnam, and Nandani Salaria, Curator, IGZP.

Srikantha Natha Reddy, in his inaugural address, expressed his gratitude towards the students, teachers, and the community for their active participation and support. He emphasized the crucial role of humans in comparison to other species and stressed the importance of each species within the ecosystem. He also engaged with students, teachers, and parents, gathering their perspectives on wildlife and its conservation.

Nandani Salaria, Curator, IGZP, applauded the creative talents of the young participants and encouraged them to persist in their efforts to raise awareness about the importance of protecting wildlife and our natural heritage.

Following the successful inaugural programme and drawing competition, a tide pool event was conducted at Rushikonda Beach. This event served as an educational opportunity for participants of all ages, highlighting the significance of preserving coastal ecosystems. Approximately 50 enthusiasts actively participated in this event.

In a heartwarming gesture of support for wildlife conservation, CPE Junior College, Visakhapatnam, adopted various animals at the zoo and contributed '40,000 towards the welfare and care of these animals.
